"I and the other 20 artists are overjoyed, not only because we are able to bring together such an exceptional body of art at a venue located in what is rapidly becoming the leading street for modern art in London, but also to do with the support of our embassy and their fantastic staff and within the patronage of The D Group art programme and the support of its extensive network of top UK business connections. We have no doubt that PortugArt is going to become the project that will inspire and support our Portuguese artists, giving them a great opportunity to showcase their works in 2016 and beyond “.
Mara Alves (founder of PortugArt)
I was born in Lisbon in March 21, 1981
Early on I discovered the art in my life!
Very observant and sensitive new began to see beauty in all shapes, things and people ... and wanted to represent them!
At age 10 when I was offered the first art book, I realized immediately that this was my path. I started as an apprentice in various workshops, and training with various artists, first in porcelain and pottery, then fine arts, going through materials and techniques of artistic expression.
Figurative passionate, by nature I am colorist and experimentalist, carrying for my works, picking up small experiences in my day-to-day.
Completed my graduation in Painting and Drawing in ar.co (Center for Art and Visual Communication) in 2005 and even before the finish, I received an invitation to teach at private Art classes and Since then, I have always worked in the field of plastic expression and growing within this area, I was hugging all projects and opportunities that the art world was giving me!
Participate in Fine Arts national and international contests since 2004, where I was selected in several, having won an honorable mention in the 4th BIENNIAL OF VISUAL ARTS SANTA CATARINA DA SERRA 2007 and as Emerging Artist Award with Best Picks Painting at International Emerging Artist Award 2013.
Realized to date, numerous solo and group exhibitions, national and international, and some of my works integrates private collections.
I have dedicated the last years providing teaching in several private art classes, to finally get to have my own art studio, “A ARTE TEM LUGAR” (in English meaning Art Has A Place) where I gave training and coordinate the activities of the artistic space and where I had been privileged to share the art with others, at the same time devoted every minute working to get power and go beyond valuing my artwork individually.
Currently I am based in London and supported by The Portuguese Embassy in London and several artistic entities as an Artist and a founder of PortgArt. www.maraalves.com
